This weekend we went to a Naming Ceremony to celebrate the birth of our lovely friends’ baby boy. It’s been a bit hectic at work, so I wasn’t originally planning to make a gift, but then a window of opportunity arose last weekend, so I speed quilted this sweet little quilt for a sweet little boy.
The squares are mostly The Boat House by Sweetwater for Moda, but I added in some Lewis & Irene Safari Park in Turquoise as this went nicely and I wanted the quilt to be a bit bigger than the charm pack allowed (it ended up 100cm long by 70cm wide). As his nursery has an elephant theme, I went for John Lewis Eli the Elephant cotton fabric as the backing, with a navy cotton binding I purchased in Dunelm Mill.
I mostly followed Flossie Teacakes’ guide to quilting and used this video to help with the mitred corners. Here are a couple of photos of it in progress, taken on my phone whilst balancing precariously on a chair:
All in all, although it’s not perfect, I’m pleased with how it came together, especially in under a week. Let’s just hope he likes it!
