Baby Quilt

This weekend we went to a Naming Ceremony to celebrate the birth of our lovely friends’ baby boy. It’s been a bit hectic at work, so I wasn’t originally planning to make a gift, but then a window of opportunity arose last weekend, so I speed quilted this sweet little quilt for a sweet little boy.

The squares are mostly The Boat House by Sweetwater for Moda, but I added in some Lewis & Irene Safari Park in Turquoise as this went nicely and I wanted the quilt to be a bit bigger than the charm pack allowed (it ended up 100cm long by 70cm wide). As his nursery has an elephant theme, I went for John Lewis Eli the Elephant cotton fabric as the backing, with a navy cotton binding I purchased in Dunelm Mill.

Boat House SweetwaterThe quilt is not the neatest ever (I need to see if I can find a 1/4″ foot for Admiral Sew, as I was doing the seams by eye), but I’m pleased with the overall effect and I love the colours.

Boat House Sweetwater ModaI mostly followed Flossie Teacakes’ guide┬áto quilting and used this video to help with the┬ámitred corners. Here are a couple of photos of it in progress, taken on my phone whilst balancing precariously on a chair:

All in all, although it’s not perfect, I’m pleased with how it came together, especially in under a week. Let’s just hope he likes it!
